WELL owns and operates Canada's largest network of outpatient medical clinics serving primary and specialized healthcare services and is the provider of a leading multi-national, multi-disciplinary telehealth offering.

WELLSTAR, a majority-owned subsidiary of WELL Health Technologies Corp, is a high-growth SaaS company with a focused objective of reshaping healthcare through digital enablement. Our innovative solutions are designed to streamline care delivery, integrate healthcare systems and improve patient outcomes.

The opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking Controller to lead WELLSTAR’s finance and accounting function during our next phase of growth. As the quarterback of the finance team, you will take ownership of day-to-day financial operations, including the monthly close process, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

This is a both a tactical and strategic leadership role where you will oversee all core accounting operations, mentor a high-performing team, and work cross-functionally to deliver financial insights that shape key decisions. You will play a critical part in scaling finance operations in a high-growth SaaS environment, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all financial processes.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Vancouver, BC.

Who you are

You are an accomplished finance leader with significant experience as a Controller in larger or mid-sized public companies, ideally within the SaaS technology sector. You thrive in the fast pace and complexity of a scaling environment and have the depth of expertise to manage a growing, multifaceted team. You are both detail-oriented and strategic, able to dive into the numbers while building the systems, processes, and capabilities needed for long-term success. You are collaborative, data-driven, and motivated by the opportunity to directly impact healthcare transformation.

What's in it for you

A mission that inspires. WELLSTAR is part of the WELL Health family, committed to revolutionizing and digitizing healthcare for both providers and patients. Your work will contribute to improving the delivery of healthcare and enabling better outcomes — an impact that resonates far beyond the numbers.

Impact and visibility. You will join WELLSTAR during a period of rapid expansion, with ambitious plans for both organic growth and M&A. Your leadership will directly shape the structure, processes, and capabilities of the finance function, ensuring it can meet the demands of a scaling SaaS business.

Opportunity to build and elevate. You will have the mandate to design and strengthen the Controllership team while implementing systems, controls, and automation that set the foundation for long-term success. You will work closely with senior leadership to bridge the current gap in finance management, enabling executives to focus on strategic initiatives rather than daily operations.

A people-first culture. You will join an innovative, inclusive company where diverse perspectives, collaboration, and professional growth are valued. Certified as a Great Place to Work® in Canada, WELLSTAR offers the tools, trust, and environment you need to do meaningful work that makes a difference.

You will:

  • Lead the finance and accounting function. You will oversee all core accounting operations, including the general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts receivable/payable, and banking/payment activities. You will own the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting under IFRS, and deliver financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses to senior leadership.
  • Enable strategic decision-making. You will partner with FP&A to prepare budgets, forecasts, and key performance metrics that inform growth strategies. You will provide technical accounting guidance on contracts, revenue recognition, and M&A activity, helping to shape integration plans and align policies and controls post-acquisition. You will work closely with the future VP Finance and other senior leaders to bridge the current “gap” in finance management — freeing leadership from being pulled into day-to-day tasks and enabling more focus on strategic priorities.
  • Build and scale the team. You will lead, mentor, and develop a growing finance team — currently five people, including yourself, — ensuring that all financial processes are efficient, scalable, and effective. You will foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth that matches the pace and complexity of WELLSTAR’s expansion.
  • Act as a trusted advisor. You will serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, prepare working papers for quarterly and annual reporting, and collaborate with the finance transformation team to evaluate and implement new financial systems. You will work cross-functionally with business leaders to surface insights that directly impact WELLSTAR’s growth and mission. You will use a data-driven approach to deliver clear, actionable insights that help drive operational performance, resource planning, and investment decisions.

Here's what you bring:

  • The credentials. You hold a CPA designation and bring substantial experience as a Controller, with a track record of success in larger or mid-sized public companies. You have the depth of experience needed to manage the complexities of a fast-scaling business, ensuring leadership can focus on growth.
  • The technical expertise. You have deep knowledge of IFRS and extensive experience with audits, financial reporting, and compliance. You understand subscription-based revenue models and SaaS performance metrics, and you are adept at translating them into meaningful insights for leadership. You are highly proficient in Excel and have worked with accounting platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks, or Xero.
  • The leadership skills. You have a proven track record in high-growth environments — ideally SaaS — and know how to adapt processes and controls to scale with speed. You are a team builder who fosters accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement. You have scaled finance operations in dynamic, high-growth environments and have a track record of coaching and mentoring high-performing teams. You can inspire confidence in a growing team and structure operations to support both organic growth and M&A.
  • The problem-solving mindset. You take a proactive, analytical approach to challenges, anticipating issues before they arise and proposing practical, data-driven solutions. You can manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and timeliness.
  • The communication and collaboration. You can distill complex financial concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders. You excel at building trust with executives, cross-functional partners, and external auditors, ensuring alignment on priorities and deliverables.
  • The growth orientation. You have a growth mindset, embracing change, managing multiple demands, and maintaining performance in a dynamic, complex, and evolving environment. You leverage technology and automation to drive efficiency and stay current on best practices that keep your team ahead of the curve.
